PIU Tide Rolls to an Opening win in Basketball

Last Saturday the PIU Tide opened the 2010 basketball campaign in the Guam Church League with a 62-35 win over Island Praise Fellowship. While the offense looked pretty much like it was the first game, the defense created numerous turnovers which led to most of the 62 point total. Coach Daisy Murdock said that the team will focus on running the offense in practice this week. The Tide will try to improve their record to 2-0 as they take on Bayview Baptist next Saturday at the Astumbo Gym.

Jeremiah and Mike carried most of the scoring load while Josh led the team in rebounds.

The PIU fans were loud and enthusiastic throughout the game.

The whole PIU family was involved in the win.

PIU Tide? What's the meaning of it?

Hi Joy,
When we were thinking about a team nickname for PIU we wanted something that would go with the islands. The tide is powerful, it is important for the well-being of the islands and when the tide rises everything rises with it. So we thought that was a good name for our school teams
