We are getting close to the middle of the semester and we are already focusing toward the upcoming graduation. I thought it would be good to highlight the after graduation plans of our upcoming class if 2013 over the next few weeks. First up is Davy Welle. Davy is the president of the PIU student council and is very active in student missionary projects. For much more in depth information on his background you can take a look at a post I made about him last Fall after he returned from the Yap mission trip here. His long term goal is to be a pastor in Chuuk.
As the next step toward that goal he plans to be a full-time student at the PIU seminary PIES. Davy is concerned that most pastors in Chuuk are not well-educated and there are some who pastor for the wrong reasons. However, he does not want to be critical of these pastors, “I want to help them.” He has seen the effectiveness of other Chuukese pastors who have been trained at PIES and he wants to follow in their footsteps. He wants to go back to his home church in Weno to teach and preach. He sees the need for a deeper theological understanding in Chuuk and for better ministry training. Davy is also willing to teach in the Christian schools there.
One of his long term goals is to reopen the PIU teaching facility in Chuuk. He says, “a lot of people got good Bible training there and Chuuk needs that.” With a master’s degree from PIU he could teach classes there. Davy asks for prayer that he will be able to find the financial support to attend the seminary next year. The graduate program is not eligible for federal funds and he will need to find ways to raise the money needed. This coming summer Davy will be part part of the Palau Mission team. He will be assisting Palauan Evangelical Church Pastor Hedrick Kual (another PIU grad) with ministry work on the island of Angaur and other Palauan villages. They will also help with the rebuilding of Bethania High School as part of the recovery from Typhoon Bopha. Davy hopes his time in Palau will “motivate the Palauan church to send out missionaries.”
