The Joyful Noise Music Festival last Sunday night was a tremendous blessing to me, the entire PIU family and to churches represented by the Guam Ministerial Association. With the tragedy we have been facing, it was so good for all of us, students, staff and faculty, to get out and be blessed by our brothers and sisters in the Guam church community. As one PIU student put it, “We Micronesians sing to each other when we need comfort. Tonight we need to let someone sing to us.” It was a blessing to hear 600 people singing praises in Chamorro, Korean, Chinese, Chuukese, Palauan, Tagalog, Spanish, Marshallese, and, even, English. And then we got pie and ice cream! Thank you GMA and Guam church community for a wonderful evening. Thank you Abundant Life Church for hosting and thank you Samantha for organizing the event. A wonderful night!
The PIU students were dressed and ready to sing
Our friends at the Guam Lutheran Church got us started off. Note Samantha and Mike in the group here.
Chalan I Saina lifted up their praises in the Chamorro language
We were blessed by Acts 2 Church, Mike’s reading of Psalm 33 and a very encouraging solo
Miracle Assembly provided an a cappella number, followed by a prayer from Pastor John Oh
The First Church of God group had singers of all ages
After a song by the Palauan Evangelical Church worship team, PIU student Jee read a Psalm. Note that she is prepared for the snow.
Castle Zion Church performed a Korean song in both Korean and English followed by an upbeat song by the Marshallese.
PIU students followed with a Chuukese song. On the left Alvin, who wrote the song, explains the meaning and, on the right, Samantha directs
(Left) Pastor Tom Van Engen lifts up PIU in prayer. PIU student Mason Red performs his original poem “Grammys.”
Faith Church changed things up a bit by performing a traditional Christmas song
Then the Bayview worship team rocked the house
Our hosts Abundant Life Church reminded us, “How Great Is Our God!”
Pastor Albert of ALC closed our service in prayer and we took a picture with several of the pastors who were there.
The evening ended with pie and ice cream, a time to enjoy fellowship with good friends and play with the grandchildren.
