We spent a quiet, but very enjoyable Fourth of July at my mom and dad's house. My sister and her family joined us along with my mom and dad. We barbecued burgers and hotdogs and made some homemade ice cream. It was really nice to sit on the porch for a few hours, eat too much, and just have some unhindered time to talk with family. One of the things that we really missed being thousands of miles away out in the islands for the past 30 years was spending time with our family. So, at least, this is been one positive thing about being sick and being stuck here in California. We are also looking forward to having all three of our kids and their families here with us in a couple weeks. We're still trying to figure out what we're going to do, but it will be enough just to have everyone together. We also enjoyed eating the red white and blue Rice Krispie treats that Missy and Leila made (right). So even though it was Independence Day it was nice to celebrate the interdependence and love that we have within our family.
