PIU Is Teaching Classes on Yap Again

After several years Pacific Islands University is again running classes on the island of Yap. After Typhoon Sudal flooded and destroyed our classroom in 2004, we were only able to teach a few scattered classes and seminars in Yap. During the last two years a team from Santa Cruz CA refurbished a church residence into the new Yap PIU classroom. We have spent most of the last year getting things set up and now, finally, we can offer a full slate of classes again on Yap.
yapWe are now offering 3 classes to eight students (you can see them in the album above) in the summer term. Faculty member Joey Charles headed down to Yap on July 12th and is teaching Remedial English, Study Skills and Public Speaking. Two of these classes will be continued on our distance education site after Joey returns to Guam August 10th. We will be offering 6 courses by distance education in the Fall semester for students who decide to continue studying in Yap, but some of these students will come up to the Guam main campus to continue their studies. We are excited about the opportunities in Yap and we continue to look for a teacher that we can base in Yap full time to run our programs there.

Thanks for the update! Great to see God's work continuing on Yap. We pray for you all regularly and treasure our many special memories from our time on Yap earlier this year. Love all those student pictures! Hardy and Irene - http://www.drhardysunderwald.blogspot.com

Thanks to everyone who made this possible. I know from talking to Vincent and others that this is a great answer to prayer.
Congratulations to all concerned!
