The 2nd day of PIU Days is, traditionally “field day.” So we headed over to the Bayview Church field (thank you to our friends at Bayview who allowed us to use the field and even mowed it for us the day before) for a day of races, games and fun in the sun. The teams competed hard, enjoyed Jamaican Grill for lunch, played some Wacky games along with the traditional races and came back to PIU a little sunburned, tired and dehydrated. But everyone had a good time. There were also afternoon basketball and volleyball games before the evening program.
Several of the guys got there early to set up the canopy
There was a lot of wind but eventually we got it set up and were ready to go
The first event was the eating relay race. I think the bag of Fritos was the hardest to swallow
I enjoyed the expressions on the students’ faces as they tried to get that food down quickly
Even Billy Edwin had some trouble with the chocolate muffin. But, as you can see, only the wrappers remained in the end.
The races featured some serious competition
Sarah Brubaker outran all of her students
The closest race of the day
The audience enjoyed the spirited competition
After the races it was lunch time and an opportunity for the campus kids to play on the field
Teams took a few moments to relax and pose for pictures
And pose for a few more pictures
After lunch the games resumed with the Tug O’ War
The kids’ tug o war featured some very intense competition and a high cuteness ratio
And you need an egg toss
Mayson and Scott did a good job coordinating the event
Later in the afternoon we returned to campus for a volleyball game: Mountains vs. Tehom
Followed by the Tehom vs. Mountains basketball game
