"Since surgery last Wednesday, Mike has been back to see a doctor twice. He will not see his surgeon until Monday. Thankfully both check-ups went great (not that Mike wasn't in a lot of pain). At the day 2 redressing of his wound, we were happy to see a nice sealed up cut, several inches long, that showed no signs of infection! Today we were in for another check up. The doc confirmed that things continue to heal up very well. Thank you so much for remembering Mike and our family in your prayers as we all work to get him better! He is able to get in and out of bed by himself now, though it is still better if I help him. He is still occasionally experiencing quite a bit of pain and got a prescription for more pain medication.
On another note, we will be moving in with Mike's parents in the next day or so. Renovations begin soon! Mike's parents own the house and plan to create a second bathroom (very much needed!) out of the laundry/storage area as well as remodeling the kitchen. It is a large project (especially when working with a concrete house!) that should take about three weeks. The work will require filling and raising the floor, laying new pipes as well as purchasing and installing a new toilet, vanity, tub, tankless water heater, and ordering and installing kitchen cabinets. Oh, did I mention retiling the floor?
Finally, we recently learned (although we've known that it was a possibility) that PIU will officially be furloughing most of their staff for the summer due to a financial shortfall. This does affect us as I am a part-time employee of the school.
We would appreciate if you would join us in praying for the following:
- Continued healing for Mike's knee as well as regaining strength and range of motion. He will most likely be referred to a physical therapist next week.
- That the remodeling process goes smoothly and without any hitches!
- That the Lord would provide the finances that PIU needs to make it through the summer. PIU is holding a summer session of classes so there will be some income from tuition, but this will not be enough to meet our needs. If you're interested in making a donation to PIU, you can get information to do so at: http://www.piu.edu/advancement/donation/
- That the Lord would provide financially for all those who have been laid off for the summer. This does include most of our paid staff (staff/faculty/administration).
We count it a privilege and blessing to have you all as part of our ministry team! Thank you so much for partnering with us in prayer as we seek to be a blessing to the people of Micronesia through our ministry at PIU.
Blessings,
Samantha for the Owen family"
