PIU Days #3 – The Lions on the Prowl

I am writing this post from the Narita airport in Japan. After a late night wrap-up of PIU days I made it to the airport at 5 AM and am on my way to do some recruiting in California and Oregon. The final day of our PIU Days celebration was a fitting end to a great weekend. Our student body president, Mondale Tim, did a great job of organizing the event with the very capable help of the whole student council. The songs were great, the messages were inspiring and the games were very competitive. The Lions did a great job of leading the final night fellowship and the celebration closed with the traditional chicken, ribs, potato salad and rice barbecue. Here are a few pictures of the “day of the lions.”

After the morning on-campus service (which missed because I was preaching at the Lutheran Church of Guam) the first event of the afternoon was the Bible trivia contest. The faculty had to go pretty deep to find questions these Bible scholars could not answer. Jeremiah and Mondale were the masters of ceremony and judges for the contest.

As is the custom for this event, the Lions worked very hard in the afternoon to make sure that their decorations topped everything that had gone before. We were all taken “into the jungle.”

The first afternoon sports event was the ladies’ volleyball final. The Lions defeated the Angels in straight sets

The men’s basketball final followed. This time the Angels prevailed in a close game.

And the victors posed for team pictures

The evening program began with the Lions making their entrance

Serenity and I both spent some time on the stage

The guys performed a skit about life in the dorm. The main catch phrase seemed to be “let’s eat!”

Most of music was student-written and they performed it beautifully

The Lions sang several group songs and (left) Grace performs a solo accompanied by DY and Matthew

Davy was the evening MC for the Lions. Mondale announced the winners of the PIU Days competition. It was 1. Angels  2. Lions  3. Saints.

Alumnus John Jim provided a thoughtful meditation on the goodness of God and the Lions closed the program with a group song.
