Joyce and I have been enjoying attending Agana Heights Baptist Church the last couple years. I have been teaching the men’s Sunday School class this summer (Genesis) and we had a good discussion of the life of Abraham yesterday. During the regular service several of the Agana Heights youth who attended the “Further Up, Further In” retreat at PIU this past weekend gave testimonies about how the weekend impacted them. They described the retreat as “awesome,” “cool” and “amazing.” One of the girls mentioned that the retreat opened up her eyes to the “mission” all around her to share the gospel with her friends by her words and life and not be ashamed who she was as a follower of Christ. A young man shared a new-found excitement to read the Bible and apply it. Their testimonies were followed by a good sermon from Colossians 3 about how our behavior can give the church and Christianity a bad (or good) reputation in the community.
Another event that made the day special was the announcement by PIU student, and my nephew, Jesse Hartt that he and Jonie are now engaged to be married. She is not standing next to him while he makes the announcement because she was upstairs running the church sound system. But, I did get a picture of them together after church. We are very excited for them and are looking forward to their wedding next summer. Congratulations Jesse and Jonie!
